Cafes in Japan are very different to western cafes. Usually, they are small and tucked away in some tiny street, and the only way to find their existence is through word of mouth. Crazy hey? You would think they would want your business and make it easy to find instead!
They are not a place for loud conversation and don't have huge speakers blasting music through them. And there is something that gives the impression they are not about profit, but rather the sharing of good food with friends. The menu is basic and handwritten, but deliciousness is always guaranteed at a Japanese cafe. Another guarantee is you will come out more relaxed than when you came in.
The decor is simplistic with lots of space around furnishings. Excessiveness is a no no! There are no lush colours, but cafe interiors are rich in earthy colours.
The photos in this post are from a group of cafes in Kanuma in Tochigi ken. And yes! They are not easy to find, so there is a google map to help you on your cafe quest below!
Next time you are in Japan, be sure to head down a pokey little street, because you just may find that little piece of Japanese calmness in the form a cafe.
