ABOUT

Grab yourself a cuppa first...this may take time :-)

This is how I began my store, Bleecker Street Vintage in Melbourne.

Since I was young, I was always interested in having market stalls. I remember in my early teenage years convincing my cousins to have a stall at Albert Park Lake in Albert Park. My poor uncle ended up volunteering (the first of many) his time to take us down to have a stall.

Years later, I passed my drivers licence test, so was able to have stalls at Camberwell Market selling anything interesting I could get my hands on.

I took a long break traveling interstate, studying, travelling, then studying again and yes traveling again! I love travel.

During my five year period in Japan, I discovered vintage kokeshi dolls and Etsy. It was my first successful online store. Like all things, other people caught onto the idea of selling kokeshi and so additional kokeshi stores sprang up on Etsy. Eventually it became time to return back home to Melbourne, Australia, so my partner and myself packed our belongings and many boxes of kokeshi and headed back home.

After some more travel, this time around Australia, (it took four months) we settled in Melbourne, got jobs and when our favourite things from Japan arrived we found a place to live in Brunswick.

I was recharged and ready to begin selling at Camberwell Market. And so with my fabulous artisan friend Catherine, who sold (and still does) lovely vintage, we began a stall together. Appreciating good design and craftsmanship, I fell in love with vintage clothes and began to collect and sell vintage clothes myself.

Soon after, my friend and I joined forces and began a ever so small business together. However, we soon found we had different ideas about the direction of the business and so over a cuppa...actually, it was many, we decided to go our separate ways.

Once again, I had a short break from stalls and vintage, and this time went to New York,  New England, which is one of my favourite places (Maine has great lobster!) and dropped by San Francisco too. I also married my partner in New York :-).

Come late December 2011, I discovered I was missing vintage clothing, along with the enjoyment of restoring and talking about the history of clothes. It was then I made up my mind to get back into all things vintage & home-ware related.

Currently, Bleecker Street has a strong focus on vintage clothing, however as things move along it is hoped more items will be added to the list of things here at Bleecker Street Vintage. Be on the look out soon on my online store for home-wares, bags and my own line of clothes too.

Finally, comments & constructive feedback are appreciated, so please don't hesitate to contact me at bleecker.st.vintage@gmail.com
